Terms of Use

1. About these terms

These terms apply to your use of WordCounts (“the site”), which is published by Naveed Qadir (“we”, “us”). If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site.

2. The tools are provided as they are

The Character Counter, the SMS Character Counter and all other content are provided free of charge, “as is” and “as available”. We work to make the tools accurate and we document how they count on How We Count, but we do not promise that every result is correct, complete or suitable for a particular purpose, and to the extent the law allows we give no warranties of any kind.

3. Check results that matter

Some figures are estimates and are labelled as such, including sentence counts, emoji counts, reading and speaking times, and any limit marked as approximate. Counting also depends on the Unicode rules built into your browser. Where a count has consequences, for example a submission with a strict limit, a paid advertisement or a bulk message, confirm it with the service you are submitting to. Its own counter is the one that decides.

4. Platform limits can change

Limits and guidelines shown on the site were correct against the linked source on the date shown beside them. Platforms change their limits and their counting rules without notice. We do not guarantee that any limit is current, and figures described as guidelines are not limits at all.

5. SMS results follow the standard, not your provider

The SMS Character Counter applies commonly documented standard rules for encoding and segmentation. Messaging providers, mobile carriers and countries can handle messages differently, including how they convert characters, split messages and charge for them. The tool does not send messages and is not a statement of what you will be billed or of whether a message will be delivered.

6. Your text is your responsibility

Text you enter is processed in your browser and is not sent to us, as described in the privacy policy. You remain responsible for the text you write and for how you use it, including making sure you have the right to use it and that it complies with the rules of wherever you publish or send it.

7. Availability

We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the site at any time, and we do not promise that it will always be available or free of faults.

8. Content and ownership

The site’s design, text, guides, examples and code are owned by Naveed Qadir or used with permission, and are protected by copyright and other laws. You may use the tools for personal or commercial work and you may link to any page. You may not copy substantial parts of the site’s content and republish them as your own.

Names of platforms and products mentioned on the site belong to their respective owners. They are used only to describe those services; the site is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• attempt to disrupt, overload or gain unauthorised access to the site or its hosting;
• copy the site wholesale, or collect its content by automated means for republication;
• interfere with, obscure or generate artificial clicks on any advertising;
• use the site in any way that breaks the law.

10. Links and advertising

The site links to third-party pages, mainly official documentation used as sources. We are not responsible for the content of those pages. If the site shows advertisements, they are provided by third parties, are labelled as advertisements, and are not recommendations by us.

11. Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the site or its results. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law, or any rights you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top of the page shows when they last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
